In the late 1970’s, Gregg Ellsworth departed in an Embry Riddle aircraft out of Daytona, FL for a nearby airport in Deland. They practiced a few landings and the instructor then told Gregg to stop and proceeded to exit the aircraft. It was time for Gregg’s first solo! He proceeded to do three take offs and landings on his own. Upon the third, a storm suddenly started to roll in. Gregg’s instructor radioed him to make this a full stop landing, where he would hop back in and they’d head back to Daytona.
Not long thereafter, Gregg would complete his private pilot certificate and earn a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management. Every year he returns to the site of his first solo, as an aircraft insurance agent with Aviation Insurance Resources (AIR), for the Deland Sport Aviation Showcase. This year’s three-day event takes place November 14-16th. Gregg can be found in booth #305 for AIR.
After a decade of low premiums, aircraft insurance rates are on the rise as are the underwriters’ minimum requirements for pilot experience.
“The hardening market presents a challenge specifically for new or low time pilots transitioning to tailwheel and experimental light sport aircraft,” explained Gregg, “stop by the booth at Deland or drop me a line to discuss what makes and models may be the best suited for your situation.”
The Deland Sport Aviation Showcase offers the best way to end the airshow season with workshops, forums, demo flights, countless vendors, and more!
